Bronx Foreclosure Auction Blockade – Monday March 26th

Common Law Marches in St. Pat’s for All Parade!

St. Pat’s for All welcomes all to celebrate Irish heritage and culture regardless of race, gender, creed or sexual orientation.  Common Law (joined by 20 allies/supporters) was proud to march with the peace and justice contingent in the parade this year.

Common Law Participates in Successful Auction Blockades!

In October 2011 and again in January 2012, Common Law joined housing activists from Organizing for Occupation to block the public auction of foreclosed homes.  We are part of a larger movement to lift every voice and sing in a moratorium on all foreclosures.  Recently, the auction blockades were covered by the Rachel Maddow Show:

Weekly Legal Clinics Help Homeowners Fight Back

Common Law’s weekly foreclosure prevention legal clinics help homeowners fight back against the banks and keep their homes.  Our legal clinics provide legal education about the foreclosure process and about the options that are available to homeowners to avoid foreclosure.  Common Law attorneys also help homeowners identify legal defenses to foreclosure and draft important legal documents.

Common Law Joins Organizing for Occupation for Successful Eviction Blockade!

On August 19th, Common Law joined over 200 people in an eviction blockade to successfully fight off the marshal!  The eviction blockade by Organizing for Occupation (O4O) helped Ms. Mary Lee Ward, an 82 year-old great-grandmother in Bed-Stuy, remain in her home.  Common Law is currently in settlement negotiations with the landlord to fight for Ms. Ward’s right to her home!
